What is the proper way redirect or forward from one JSP to another.

I have a sequence of 3 JSPs that contain forms the user needs to fill out.
Each form action calls itself to do validation. I was using
request.redirect() but it was causing browser problems then I switched to
<jsp:forward...> and it works for the first page then on the second I get
the error:

Internal Servlet Error:
javax.servlet.ServletException: Error: Attempt to clear a buffer that's
already been flushed
