Unfortunately, NMaven currently doesn't support snapshots and it is expected that the build will break if you do not follow the 0.0.0.0 convention: http://incubator.apache.org/nmaven/getting-started.html#Assembly%20Info
It does raise the issue that NMaven should support some notion of snapshots, perhaps using a classifier. I'll investigate some solutions.

This issue is now fixed in the SI_XPT branch after applying the NMAVEN-43 patch. You will soon be able to use -SNAPSHOT in the version ids of the pom without breaking the assembly info.
