Yeah, I don't want to do it but I think the majority think we should keep contrib (with various qualifications).  Let me try and write a summary up on the ML.  Regards this issue, we should close it?  I think stargate we can now pull into core since old REST was deprecated in 0.20.  Stargate can take over.  Thrift is harder since we didn't deprecate the old thrift in 0.20.  I think how this is dealt with is up to Lars Francke.  Maybe we have old and new thrift in core for one release.  Or maybe its easier on him adding new thrift as a contrib for one release and then pull it up into core.
