[users@httpd] Options not allowed here
I can't figure out why in my error log "Options not
allowed here"
appears everytime there is a .htaccess file in a
directory.
relevant httpd.conf:
<Directory "*****">
Options -Indexes FollowSymLinks ExecCGI
AllowOverride All
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Directory>
The ***** is my document root. If I place a .htaccess
file with:
Options +Indexes
or
Options -Indexes
A 500 error will show up and Apache logs will say
"Options not allowed here"
In fact, if I leave ANYTHING AT ALL in the .htaccess
file it gives me
this error.
Can anyone help? I want to be able to show directory
contents for some
directories and not in others without messing around
in httpd.conf all
the time.

There are probably multiple AllowOverride directives in your configuration
file, and one of them is overriding this one. Try searching through your
config for every instance of AllowOverride.
