Document save( ) methods?

What determines whether my generated document class has save() methods? 
  My first project generated document (ie. MessageDocument) classes with 
a save(OutputStream out) method.  But now on my second XmlBean project, 
I get a document without save( ) methods.

Trying to run down why this would be.
