garrettsutula opened a new issue #1292: couchdb 2.1.1 - can't create new views
URL: https://github.com/apache/couchdb/issues/1292
## Expected Behavior
- Running couchdb on RHEL 7
- New database, no documents in it, trying to create a view w/ defaults in all fields, "test" as the document name.
- New document & view is created
## Current Behavior
The following request is made to the couchdb server:
```
PUT http://x:5984/doesntmatterwhatever/_design/test HTTP/1.1
Host: x:5984
Connection: keep-alive
Content-Length: 118
Accept: application/json, text/javascript, */*; q=0.01
Origin: http://x:5984
X-Requested-With: XMLHttpRequest
Content-Type: application/json
Referer: http://x:5984/_utils/
Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate
Accept-Language: en-US,en;q=0.9
{"_id":"_design/test","views":{"new-view":{"map":"function (doc) {\n emit(doc._id, 1);\n}"}},"language":"javascript"}
```
And the server eventually responds with:
```
HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error
X-CouchDB-Body-Time: 0
X-Couch-Request-ID: a626cad350
Server: CouchDB/2.1.1 (Erlang OTP/18)
Date: Thu, 26 Apr 2018 19:54:32 GMT
Content-Type: application/json
Content-Length: 47
Cache-Control: must-revalidate
{"error":"unknown_error","reason":"undefined"}
```
In the server couchdb logs, the following entries are repeated and couchdb begins to utilize a high % of CPU as new processes start up and error out like this over & over:
```
[info] 2018-04-26T19:47:22.913876Z couchdb@127.0.0.1 <0.213.0> -------- couch_proc_manager <0.1498.0> died normal
[error] 2018-04-26T19:47:22.913948Z couchdb@127.0.0.1 <0.1496.0> -------- OS Process Error <0.1498.0> :: {os_process_error,{exit_status,1}}
```
## Possible Solution
[This issue seems similar](https://github.com/apache/couchdb/issues/1133) but doesn't have the same exit code, so doesn't seem related to me. I couldn't find much with the same error codes, tried enabling debug logging and didn't see any other log entries that seemed related/useful for troubleshooting.
## Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)
1. Running CouchDB on RHEL 7
2. Create a new database
3. Create a new view named "test" within the new database.
4. Issue described above occurs.
