[jira] Created: (WW-2028) Maven repositories don't include sources and javadoc

Maven repositories don't include sources and javadoc
----------------------------------------------------

                 Key: WW-2028
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/struts/browse/WW-2028
             Project: Struts 2
          Issue Type: Improvement
    Affects Versions: 2.0.8
            Reporter: Christian Nelson

I don't see the sources or javadoc artifacts up on either repo1 (http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/org/apache/struts/struts2-core/2.0.8/) or mvnrepository. According to https://issues.apache.org/struts/browse/WW-1870, this should be resolved but does not seem to be. I know these would make development much more convenient.

I don't know why the sources aren't included, so I won't be able to fix it this time around.

[jira] Closed: (WW-2028) Maven repositories don't include sources and javadoc

Posted by "Antonio Petrelli (JIRA)" <ji...@apache.org>.

Antonio Petrelli closed WW-2028.

       Resolution: Implemented
    Fix Version/s: (was: 2.1.2)
                   2.1.1

I discovered why sources and javadocs are not deployed.
The configuration of "source" and "javadoc" plugin for creating JAR files is under the "alljars" profile.
In the document:
http://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/WW/Creating+and+Signing+a+Distribution
that describes the release process, the "alljars" profile was not activated, and then.
So I simply fixed the document, et voilĂ ! sources and javadocs are deployed :-)
This was an easy one :-D

it appears that that everything should have worked for the 2.0.9 release. I'm not sure why the source and javadoc jar files didn't get uploaded.

We need to get this working in the next release. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar enough with Maven yet to do it myself.

[jira] Commented: (WW-2028) Maven repositories don't include sources and javadoc

Posted by "Tom Schneider (JIRA)" <ji...@apache.org>.

Tom Schneider commented on WW-2028:
-----------------------------------

I think we need to add mvn source:jar deploy as part of the release process. There might be a way to get this to work automatically, but I haven't figured out how yet.

The javadoc is a trickier problem. According to the documentation, mvn javadoc:jar install should work--and it does but only for the top level pom. None of the submodules' javadoc are installed. If I cd into the core directory and do an mvn javadoc:jar install, then the core javadoc's are installed, but not at the parent level. Feels like a bug in the plugin to me. (Or a misconfiguration)
