Standard Portlet API

Greetings.

I'm new to the list, and have been catching up on the digests.  It looks
like a while ago there was some discussion on this list about creating a
standard Portlet API for submission to Sun.  There is also a bullet on the
Jetspeed features page: "Soon to standardize on a Java Portlet API
specification" Does anyone know the status of this work?  While I like the
Jetspeed API overall, I was disappointed to find that it is tied to both ECS
and Turbine, and would like to see a more generic API, even if it is not yet
totally defined.
