public Gump seems to use gij
and "which java" comes up empty for my user account on vmgump.
Seems as if somebody else has already removed /usr/bin/java

Err, yes, sure. I was looking for the "offender" which was supposed
to be in my PATH as "java" if it managed to get used by Gump.
