Prototype of new (Forrest generated) Incubator site
I've been wanting to create a skin for Forrest that looks like that at
http://www.apache.org for some time. Mostly because the default Forrest
skins are, well "old".
The recent thread here discussing Forrest as a tool has finally prompted
me into action (congrats to anyone deliberately provoking us to make
this happen ;-). I've built the Incubator site using it.
My intention is only to illustrate just how easy it is to configure
Forrest to work the way you want. To use it there is just a little
editing of skinconf.xml and a one line change to forrest.properties. If
anyone feels inclined to build the incubator site with this new skin let
me know, I'll even provide a patch (why not do it myself? because
momentum is against Forrest and I have no interest in wasting my time,
so ask for it)
It is not (yet) a perfect copy of the main ASF site. We still need some
work on the finer details. However, I hope this is enough to give you a
"feel".
This was about 1.5 hours work, I may be a Forrest dev, but I am no CSS
wizard, so that is pretty quick work I think.
You can view the prototype skin at:

I believe that this may be the known issue, but none of the menu on the left
hand side is visible. Instead, I get an error, which says:

Firefox on Mac OS X has the same issue (albeit only with the width of the
window).
I've posted a screenshot of Safari (2.0.2 with 10.4.3):

I thought that black bar at the bottom was intentional, but I guess it's
not...

Really?
I don't see the problem on windows XP, IE or Firefox.
I'm guessing you are referring to the project logo, that does look like
it is clipped. I've just upload the incubator logo in its place.
Can you please confirm that it does in fact render corectlty (see below
for a known issue in IE), if you are still seeing a problem then is it
possible to attach a screenshot to [1] since I cannot reproduce it and
I'm on the same platform.
If someone could also look on Mac for me to see if it was the same
problem with poor image or if it is actually a problem with the skin I
would be most grateful.
There is a problem on IE, the menu's are not visible. I guess this is
becase of my cheats way of getting rid of the collapsing menus.

FWIW, it doesn't render correctly on Safari. It always goes over the width
and height of the window. -- justin

went to bed - I have previewed the incubator site - I'll create a patch
and attach it to Jira in case anyone wants to build it

Just FYI, I *just* tried this prototype skin on Safari 2.0.2 on
MacOSX 10.4 and it renders about 3% wider and deeper than the window
width and depth.
