[jira] [Created] (RATIS-2714) Support read-after-write consistency across clients

Tsz-wo Sze created RATIS-2714:
---------------------------------

Summary: Support read-after-write consistency across clients
                 Key: RATIS-2714
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/RATIS-2714
             Project: Ratis
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: Linearizable Read
            Reporter: Tsz-wo Sze

As discussed in RATIS-2350, the current read-after-write consistency actually is read-your-own-write. As the example from the discussion, suppose read-after-write consistency is enabled and there are two related clients:
 # Initially, x=0
 # Client 1 async writes x=1
 # Client 1 tells Client 2 to read x
 # Client 1 reads x
 # Client 2 reads x

Client 1 must get x=1 but Client 2 may get x=0 or x=1 since Client 2 is not aware of the pending write from Client 1.

In there JIRA, we add a conf to enable read-after-write consistency across clients. As mentioned previously, this is not hard to implement – just make all the reads wait for the latest pending write to complete.
