Axis (Java) 1.2 alpha - Call to Arms

Folks,

It's time to scrub the bugs and pound on the latest cvs. We need everyone (even non-committers) to
chip in whether you are interested primarily interested in or working on Axis-Java or Axis-C++ or
Axis-Mora or WSIF or other projects. Glen and me have cleaned quite a few bugs over the last few
days but the current bug count is still high at 258 (9:06 AM EST - Nov 25, 2003). We also need
folks (who already have access to the TCK's) to run the TCK against the latest CVS and report/fix
TCK related issues as well.

As usual Glen is the Release Manager :) Let's get this on the road with an alpha release ASAP
(this week?), beta early-to-middle of next month and hopefully a release by New Year if we get all
the help we need.

Info:
How do I report bugs? (http://tinyurl.com/wgzo)
Where can I get a list of current bugs? (http://tinyurl.com/wgzf)
How do I submit patches to Axis? (http://tinyurl.com/wgzk)
Where can i get snapshots of latest CVS? (http://tinyurl.com/wh07)

Thanks,
dims

+1! :)

A reminder - as dims noted a while ago, we should be using the #apache-axis
channel on irc.freenode.net for realtime conversation. I'm heading into my
office in a little while and once I'm there I'll be logged on to IRC the
rest of the day. If you're working on something and have questions or ideas
you'd like to run by people, or if you just want to hang out, I'd suggest
popping in there. The mailing list is great (and archived!) but sometimes
higher-throughput conversation is better.

I'd be happy to shoot for an alpha release this Friday, and then plan to
continue fixing bugs for the next few weeks, beta in mid-December sometime,
and then release shortly after the new year (sooner than that wouldn't
really give people time to kick the tires of the beta).

Tom,

Is anyone working currently on the bug with WSDL generation for custom
exceptions described at
http://nagoya.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=18409 - this is a real
problem for our workflow software which has to process the WSDL before
it can interact with anything. There appear to be two workarounds,

1) Fix the bug. Okay, so that's not really a workaround :)

2) Change the WSDL parser so it can be more relaxed, similar to
validation checking in an XML parser, give the option to load as much of
the definition as possible even if it finds errors. (The same WSDL files
are parsed by WSDL4J even though they are technically broken).

Cheers,

Tom
