Last time I checked, <ejbjar> supported Weblogic, jBoss, Borland and
iPlanet 8-)

Forgive me if my answer showed total ignorance, but to me it looked as
if this task is bound to be jBoss specific.  Given the license
problems and that jBoss is open source (so chances are that you could
get an Ant task in there - contrast that with Weblogic), I just
thought this would be the easiest solution.
