This is a great idea.  It also makes me realize that we really should better manage how we use curl.  It's kind of dumb for us to have standalone functions that call curl rather than have one or two generics that could be used everywhere. 

One thing I'm a bit confused by is that a successful return code didn't put anything up on the Jenkins console when run in debug mode.  Running this code standalone says it should have, so I'm guessing there is something else grabbing stderr before this is called.  That's something that should probably be investigated but that's outside the scope here I think.

In any case, I'll give others time to weigh in on the first point.  If you'd like to take that up, it'd be great.
