In DataServiceServlet, make getConverterForRequest protected

Hey everyone -

I'd like to provide additional output format types for my own implementation
of shindig restful opensocial calls. To do this I'd like to make the
getConverterForRequest method protected instead of package private in
DataServiceServlet.

Does that sound ok?
Or should I take a different approach?
