Equinox DS and NMR API?? Any plans??

Hi all,

At the moment i'm looking at servicemix-nmr.

I like very much the "pure OSGi" version to do the thing, but on the
other side i'm still looking to equinox ds stuff.

I see that servicemix-4 use spring-dm and sogi service trackers to track
registration and deregistration of endpoint.

Is is possible to use servicemix4 nmr and endpoint with equinox ds????

Andrea

Guillaume,

I've notice this too, if i need to use servicemix, as only for the nmr
part and the moment i really need
to get a lot of bundles, this because some bundles depends on spring,
and sprin have his own dependencies
and so on....

What i really would like to have in future is to have a system, where
to use the nmr, i really need to
have the nmr-api and one ( nmr-impl ) bundle, without to include everithing.

The main point, is that even if you switch the NMR to use any other
framework for wiring the OSGi bits together, you'll still need all the
spring bundles because the components depend on those ...

FWIW, I think a good plan would be to move to RFC 124 (a component
model for OSGi). This is the specification that originated from
spring-dm and which is currently being standardized in the OSGi group.
But the spec is not finalized and there's no available implementation
yet afaik ...

Hi Guillaume,

Just my two cents.
Agree with you about spring is probably the best and mature dependency
injection framework.

On the other side, the thing that i don't like very much about spring-ds
is the amount of bundle that i need to work with.
With equinox ds, i only need equinox and two additional bundle.

BTW I've just take a look at a presentation from the last eclipse con,
where DS, spring-dm and osgi are compared, the result
is that there's not a winner but each solution has advantages and
disadvantages.

What i really like about osgi-ds, is that it seem very simple and
elegant way to do the things, and there's no dependencies.

I think i'll try and let you know

Andrea

Until someone tries, we won't really know the answer.
Spring has a lost of features wrt dependency injection, like
constructors etc... not sure what DS supports.
Is there any particular reason why not using spring-dm ? I'm not
aware of any problems using it on equinox ...
