[jira] [Created] (DIRSTUDIO-1235) Studio now available through MacPorts

Lothar Haeger created DIRSTUDIO-1235:
----------------------------------------

Summary: Studio now available through MacPorts
                 Key: DIRSTUDIO-1235
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DIRSTUDIO-1235
             Project: Directory Studio
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: studio-installer
    Affects Versions: 2.0.0-M14
            Reporter: Lothar Haeger

I've added Directory Studio to MacPorts, so it can be easily installed from the command line. Please consider mentioning this as an alternative to the manual download on [https://directory.apache.org/studio/downloads.html]

Background: Macports will not compile Studio from source but merely download and install from the DMG at [http://mirror.synyx.de/apache/directory/studio/2.0.0.v20180908-M14/ApacheDirectoryStudio-2.0.0.v20180908-M14-macosx.cocoa.x86_64.dmg] .It will use any existing JDK 8+ it can find on the client and only install OpenJDK11 as a fallback if required.

From a support and troubleshooting perspective, an install via MacPorts is equal to a manual install and should not trigger side effects that would not happen otherwise.

From a end user perspective, the MacPorts install offers dependency handling and integrated updates. There's also no need to CTRL-Right-Click to open Studio the first time after a download.

The port file can be found at [https://github.com/macports/macports-ports/blob/master/databases/directory-studio/Portfile] , wiki and issue tracker for MacPorts can be found at [https://trac.macports.org/]
