I hate the "start" based commands. I think they should be removed. Too much verbosity.

solr -c , ftw.

 

But, I understand your perspective as well.

> bin/solr -f was a way to start solr, which made sense when bin/solr was only a script to start solr.  These days, there are many commands under the bin/solr, so lets make life simpler by making ti clear you have to say bin/solr start if you want to start solr.
