Problem accessing web site

Dear Sir:

I´ve been trying to download the OpenOffice software from:
http://www.openoffice.org/es/descargar/

However, it always respond with:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/openofficeorg.mirror/files/localized/es/3.4.
1/Apache_OpenOffice_incubating_3.4.1_Win_x86_install_es.exe/download

Server not found

I´ve asked to my systems administrator about, and he tells me that the
security system “Fortinet” we use blocks it. What can I do?

Thank you in advance,

-Pedro Marquez, Prof.

This link works fine for me ... My only suggestion would be to contact
your system admins and/or internet service provider about why they're
preventing downloads from SourceForge.

I would definitely put a section in "other.html" rather than trying to add
more to the green DL box. Hopefully this kind of situation won't happen
often.

I think just providing the "standard" Apache DL page options is good enough
for these cases, which hopefully are few. If one mirrror doesn't work, they
can try another.

Ah, right. It's the externaldist directory:

http://www.apache.org/dyn/aoo-closer.cgi/externaldist/openoffice/

However, the closer.cgi doesn't work with this and I don't know how to
extend this. Does someone else?

That's what was discussed with Infra. apache.org/dist would contain
source distribution, KEYS and MD5/SHA256/ASC for all files, including
for the binaries. But it would not contain the binaries.

Don't the Apache mirrors only contain checksums? Out of the 5 links
offered for Italy at
http://www.apache.org/dyn/aoo-closer.cgi/openoffice/
3 have no "openoffice" content at all (404), 2 only have some sha256
checksums, and this may be due to propagation.

But also the "master"
http://www.eu.apache.org/dist/openoffice/4.0.0/binaries/it/
contains just the checksums, not the actual files.

   Andrea.

Finally, I've added some hints:

New link entry in the nav bar on the right side:
http://ooo-site.staging.apache.org/download/test/index.html

New TOC entry and text section:
http://ooo-site.staging.apache.org/download/test/other.html

If you see improvements just tell me.

The set of Apache mirrors offers different domains and domain types, some
of which might be more easily reached through restrictive firewalls. At my
company I'm able to download from SourceForge but some other
open/public/shareware/freeware sites are blocked. Plus, some businesses
are blocked but university domains are generally reachable. So, yes,
getting on the Apache mirrors might make AOO more accessible for
downloading.

No, up to today there were really just very few complains about
downloads that do not work due to network restrictions of companies or ISPs.

... yes, somewhere else is good because the green box is already full
enough of additional links, of course IMHO. :-)

I could think of a section on the "other.html" webpage:

- Another entry in the TOC
- Some text and link to the Apache server below the tables
- Additionally a link on the main download webpage,
in link bar on the right

Too late ;-) , it's already gone as we can see with the current snapshot
builds.

Well, we can certainly think about it now. Marcus is really the lead in
this. Maybe it would be as simple as changing the description of the
alternate link from:

*Get all platforms, languages, language packs*

to

*Problems downloading? Get all platforms, languages, language packs.*

and offer

http://www.apache.org/dist<http://www.apache.org/dist/incubator/ooo/files/localized/es/3.4.1/>

It's good that you sent this. I for one had forgotten that we need to
change this link off "incubator" for 4.0. It needs to be added to our 4.0
tasks.

(1) You can download from here:

http://www.apache.org/dist/incubator/ooo/files/localized/es/3.4.1/

But you don't get the mirror system offered by sourceforge.net to our project (and many other non-Apache.)

(2) Ask Fortinet or your admin to whitelist sourceforge.net.

Marcus/Kay - Have we thought more about offering downloads from the Apache Mirror system for these exceptional cases?
