Hmmm ... SCO does not claim POSIX conformance but I haven't checked the
details - better leave that one to me.

The script as it stands needs 'uname -X' to return an error, so the output
of 'uname -X || echo xxx' is of some importance (when run under sh - 'ware
buggy csh).
