Batik development
Hello,
I am looking for a list of components/features currently in development in
Batik. I have a small idea of what's going on looking at the archives of
batik-dev and the commits. I am more especially interested in the animation
module in SVG1.1.
Thanks for your input.
Nicolas

Nicolas,
There is an architecture document on our web site which will give
you the modules already developped:
http://xml.apache.org/batik/architecture.html
we are indeed working on animation support and that involves work
in: the Bridge, GVT, Scripting environment and Renderer. We are
also working on getting a SMIL engine effort going, but there is no
development work yet.
The next beta release of Batik will contain script animation
examples (in a couple weeks we hope) with support for
animating shapes, transforms and some other things like gradients.
I hope this answers your question.
Cheers,
Vincent.

I think it would be very interesting to port Batik to the various
J2ME profiles, especially with the goal of implementing SVG Tiny
and SVG Basic.

I think there is a lot to re-use in Batik. If nothing else,
low level parsers are useful, but I think there is a lot more.

You can do an anonymous CVS checkout following the instructions
at:
http://xml.apache.org/cvs.html
for xml-batik.
About tests, I am not sure which tests you are refering to. If you
are talking about the official SVG 1.0 test suite, the Batik
scoring is on the following page:
http://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/Test/BE-ImpStatus-20011026.html
Otherwise, we pass the 600+ tests in our Batik test suite.
I you are interested in working on SVG Basic/SVG Tiny for the
J2ME environment and would like to contribute that work to the
Batik project (which I hope :-), please contact me at:
vhardy@apache.org and we'll talk about the contribution process.
Cheers,
Vincent.

Porting Batik?
Posted by Anthony Mills <am...@pyramid6.com>.
I was wondering how hard it would be to port Batik to Personal Java? I
know all of the Swing would have to be taken out, and I am sure many IO
operation would have to be rewritten. I guess my question is would it be
worth it to try to port it or would it be better to write a new one.
Also, where could I find an accurate state of the CVS version. How many
tests does it pass, etc..
Any ideas where to look would help,
Anthony Mills
