Re: [jira] Updated: (LUCENE-1342) 64bit JVM crashes on Linux

Posted by Ted Dunning <te...@gmail.com>.
I just installed a known good version by config script and bypassed apt-get.

The default on EC2 seems to be Java 1.6_07. apt-get seems to
have relatively old JVMs (how does one update the repo?).

Here's the "cat /etc/lsb-release":
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=hardy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 8.04.1"

We downgraded to JDK 1.5, and SEGV still occurred. So we tried
on a 3rd machine which worked, and deployed the potentially
errant code in production, and it has not crashed. I'm guessing
it is/was a hardware issue specific to two instances (which I am
unsure how to resolve with Amazon).

Re: [jira] Updated: (LUCENE-1342) 64bit JVM crashes on Linux

Posted by Ted Dunning <te...@gmail.com>.
That looks like a slightly musty JVM. The current stable is 1.6_16, I
think.

That said, we use 1.6u12 with good results on EC2.

What OS/version are you running? (we used alestic hardy heron ubuntu
distros since they provide very simple configuration without building a new
AMI)
