[vote] Releasing the root build POM 1.0.5
Hi all,
Today, I modified our root build POM a little bit because it seems like
cvs.apache.org is not minotaur anymore:
http://eris.apache.org/viewvc/directory/trunks/pom.xml?view=diff&r1=407138&r2=407139&pathrev=407139
I think it is good for us to release the build pom as soon as possible so it
doesn't slow down our release of ApacheDS and MINA.

This is something that puzzle me. Either apache projects use maven, and
we should have a repo to store poms (be it on people.a.o, but with a
redirection from repo.a.o or whatever it could be), or we should avoid
using maven at all. These remote repo is totally insane, and out of control.
Currently, ADS build is totally brocken due to modification in repos,
and it's not going to be easy to fix.
Sorry about that, but I think that we are loosing some big time with
those kind of issues, which should not occurs at this point of the project.
IMHO, of course ;)

The redirect is ASF infra policy. Unless maven gets its own server in
ASF and names it maven.apache.org, there's no way around it, the POMs
need to point to people.apache.org.

This should not be a problem, anyway. It's better than to have to change
the pom each time we switch the repo from a server to another, isn't it ?

it's pretty much a question of pointing to the right server in the DNS,
rather than doing a redirect, if I am not totally wrong.

This may not work, creating new host names like build.apache.org. The
reason for this is that the Apache server will just redirect back to
people.apache.org. The reason that we care is that maven does not
follow redirects that go to another site.

To clarify, after a convo with Trustin, this change is needed because we
need a place to store our SNAPSHOTs somwhere, and cvs.apache.org is not
this somwhere anymore :)
It would be better if we have a place named maven.apache.org - and we
will ask for it - but right now, we don't have it, so we have to move to
a permanent and stable place to store those SNAPSHOTs that maven need.
This is why Trustin suggest people.apache.org.

As you noticed from my recent questions to the infra team, cvs and svn have
been separated from minotaur *permanently*, and therefore we cannot use
cvs.apache.org anymore. We need to change it to something else. I thought
specifying minotaur.apache.org directly, but Noel kindly pointed me out that
it's wrong. For now, we can use people.apache.org, but I think we need to
file a JIRA issue about this so the infra team can create a new generic name
for this use case, such as build.apache.org or site.apache.org. Meanwhile,
we can go with people.apache.org.
To clarify, I'll fire the vote again next week.

OK. Let me ask the infra team to clarify this.

Yeah, I hesitate to vote on a release if this is just an anomaly caused
by recent disruptions to ASF SVN. I'd vote +1 if I saw some sort of
edict to switch, as opposed to a guess made on our part.

I guess the ASF is deprecating CVS and migrating to SVN, so that's why CVS
is pointing to a different machine.

Yeah I noticed that. Let's just wait for them as long as they reply. :)

Are you sure that is a necessary move? I guess that cvs.apache.org will
be rerouted to minautor so that we won't have to bother modifying the
pom.xml, or am I wrong?
In any case, if needed, you have my +1
