Apache XMLHTTP support?

hi,

I previously posted this to java-apache but I've since been told this 
is the correct mailing list - does anyone know if there are any plans 
in the java Apache group to add similar functionality to Microsoft's 
XMLHTTP objects in Xerces/Tomcat? (or does similar functionality 
exist already? apologies if it does, I'm quite new to all this!)
