For future reference, you might try looking for the local-portlets.xreg file.  This file will contain the newly created portlet.  Also, you might try manually editing the psml file that you were trying to edit through the psml customizer and remove the reference to the newly created portlet.  Removing portlets.xreg is not a good idea since many portlets that Jetspeed relies on are located there.
