We have same but little different situation. Tomcat 7 + JDK7 + POI 3.9 20121203. Some 6 treads on threadpoolexecutor iterate filesystem and parse of office documents. On that thread pool executer at the and we have OME. Snapshot is taken automatically by yourkit profiler and I see 8Gb of softreference generated by xmlbeans.
