How do mows properties get updated?

For example, take the mows-xs2 properties: NumberOfRequests, NumberOfSuccessfulRequests, and NumberOfFailedRequests.
Once I include these properties in my WSDL's Property element, how do these properties get updated?
 
Are these properties suppose to be initialized and kept up to date by me, or does apache-muse handle this?
