Xerces version

Is there a way to determine what version of Xerces is being used programatically?
I have an older version of Xerces in my <webapp>/WEB-INF/lib directory but I'm not sure if it is being loaded.

I get a VerifyError each time I try to use the setErrorHandler(org.xml.sax.ErrorHandler) method.

I am using Tomcat 4.1.24 and JSDK 1.3.
