Libraries, Border, L&F control
Hi all,
Never created a library before, working on getting some code out as one
now, and having this problem:
I want to have some pages in the library, but have the general look and
feel (as defined by the Border?) controlled by an application that uses
the library.
So have a:
<span jwcid="@Border" title="work dammit">
[page stuff]
</span>
in a library .page, but somehow have said Border L&F delegated to the
application. Ideas, anyone?
Richard

PropertySelection initialization
Posted by Andreas Vombach <an...@psi.ch>.
Is it possible to initialize a PropertySelection element with dynamic
content e.g. from a visit object?
As far as I have used it must be initialized statically like
public static final IPropertySelectionModel YEAR_MODEL = new
StringPropertySelectionModel(
new String[] {"2002", "2003", "2004", "2005", "2006"});
so the String[] is not able to be generated dynamically. If I had a
String[] object in my visit, could I use it to initialize the
PropertySelection?
Thanks Andreas

Hokay, after much pain but a well-needed drilldown into the Tapestry
source I have a solution, but I'd like to clean it up a bit.
I have a DelegatorBorder component that uses a special component loader
that only loads components that are in the application namespace
(instead of the component container namespace), so as long as you define
a "Border" in your app namespace, it'll use it for all pages that use
the DelegatorBorder. This allows me to have pages in my .library that
will use the application Border and thus keep a consistent look and feel
across the whole application.
Sadly, I found it nigh-impossible to subclass the PageLoader to do what
I needed without rewriting the thing because PageLoader calls I needed
were all private. So, I'll go with this solution unless one of the
all-powerful Commitors would like to collaborate offline in a) helping
me see why I'm doing the wrong this or b) helping me make an adjustment
to the PageLoader to ease loading of components outside of the container
namespace.
I'm going to release all the stuff I'm working on as open source Real
Soon Now and I think it has some cute (and powerful) concepts in it, so
please make it easier for me to do this! :)

In this case, it would be hard because there might be a lot of stuff
that can't be done by styles, like a set of components that are defined
in the application. I basically want to do some pages that can be used
by an application but use the application-specific "Border" or something
like it.
Looking at the Delegate and similar objects a.t.m...
Thanks though!

Ignoring feel, your look should be controlled by a stylesheet. This can be
loaded in your Border component. So, your component can use the stylesheet
loaded by the application. Read Jeffrey Zeldman for more on CSS and
minimal HTML (actually XHtml, but Tapestry isn't fully compliant :-()
Also, if you do specify style classes in your component HTML, don't forget
to document them, so the users of your library know how to make it look
pretty.
