flimzy opened a new issue #927: Confusing error message for bad index creation
URL: https://github.com/apache/couchdb/issues/927

   I attempted to create an index, with a mal-formed `fields` value:

       curl -v -X POST http://admin:abc123@localhost:6002/foo/_index -H 'Content-Type: application/json' -d '{"index":{"fields":"foo"}}'

   And got the following error message:

       {"error":"invalid_sort_json","reason":"Sort must be an array of sort specs, not: <<102,111,111>>"}

   I would expect:

   1. that `<<102,111,111>>` be replaced with something human-readable. Even just `foo` in this case would be an improvement.
   2. That it would refer to the `fields` key by name, rather than by `Sort`.

   ## Your Environment

   CouchDB/2.1.0 (Erlang OTP/17)
