rewriting filename and/or URL ?

On my OSX system I have Apache 1.3.22 w/mod_rewrite enabled -

I am trying to capture

system32  or winnt URIs but cannot seem to catch -

/scripts/..%c0%2f../winnt/system32/cmd.exe?/c+dir


I have tried and am using:
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} .*system32.*$    [NC,OR]

which apparently only captures -

/scripts/winnt/system32/cmd.exe?/c+dir

Why ..%c0%2f.. is causing the match to fail is somewhat confusing...


	Any ideas?
