Performance testing has revealed degraded performance over time in data-index with postgresql persistence. See the [discussion](https://lists.apache.org/thread/3sjvx4byl4jwghd8gmwmty27hvzprjy6) on the apache mailing list for further details.
Creating indexes for the FK columns should help to improve performance.
