   There is even on regular usage no guarantee /dev/tty exists so I would say this is major design flaw in the .run script.

   Seems like a bug in nvidia .run if it is trying to write into /dev when you give it --target.

   As @nanonyme said, it's not the root cause, you can try to patch the script to remove `> /dev/tty` as it seems to just print to the terminal, and see what happens

   Well, that is not the root cause. Extraction is failing.

   ```bash
   UnTAR() {
       tar xvf - 2> /dev/null || {
           echo "Extraction failed." > /dev/tty; kill -15 $$;
       };
   }
   ```
   this is line I found at Line: 719 which is causing the issue. I am new with buildstream so I might missed to configure something like in docker --privileged or something
   buildstream use bwrap/container so do it need something extra to add to bind /dev/tty as readwrite ?

   `> /dev/tty` to `> /dev/stderr` reports the issue with `xz` because command `which` is missing and its doing something i don't know what to generate xz command
   ```shell
   if ! which "xz" > /dev/null 2>&1; then
       decompressDir=`mktemp -d "$TMPDIR/makeself.XXXXXXXX" 2> /dev/null`
       decompress="$decompressDir/xz"
       (cd "$location"; catDecompress) > "$decompress"
       chmod +x "$decompress"
       PATH="$decompressDir:$PATH"
       trap cleanupDecompress EXIT
   fi
   ```

   Anyways now I happy that the issue is not in my buildstream configurations but in the packages and ugly .run script.

   It's not enough. The script is redirecting all useful stderr to /dev/null. That redirection needs to be removed too.
