Strange variables under stress

I am having a strange problem when Tomcat JSP generated servlets are under high stress. Admitedly the stress is normally caused by site trawlers over 100Mbit network. The problem is that variables from one request are having their values altered by another request on the same page immediately afterwards. I also have the same problem with a bean that does a search taking ~2 seconds. The bean's scope is "request" but if two people search simultaneously, one person gets the right results and the other's results get cut as though the ResultSet has been stomped on. I actually create a new ResultSet for each search... I use the same statement for the whole bean. Could it be the postgresql driver?
Any ideas?
