Log4J not working with Apache 2.0.43, mod_jk and Tomcat 4.1.18

I originally had log4j working in a webapp when I was server static content
and servlets through tomcat.  Now I have placed Apache in front of tomcat
and have lost my log4j.  Does anyone have any thoughts?
