Adding Apache Arrow to the registry of Digital Public Goods
As some research groups, e.g. at public universities, are doing work
that involves Apache Arrow, I have learned that it would be beneficial
in terms of access to funding if Arrow were registered as a Digital
Public Good. Here is an example of another Apache project, Fineract,
which is listed as such:
https://digitalpublicgoods.net/registry/apache-fineract.html
Would anyone be interested in assisting with preparing an application
for submission? Any prior experience would also be highly valuable.
Thanks,
Wes

Hi Arrow devs,
What we most need to help complete the DPG application are links to
evidence showing that Apache Arrow is relevant to the UN's Sustainable
Development Goals, which are described here:
https://sdgs.un.org/goals
Here is some information from the DPG organization explaining what is needed:
>What are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17
interlinked global goals designed as blueprint to achieve a better and
more sustainable future for all. The SDGs were set up in 2015 by the
United Nations General Assembly and are intended to be achieved by the
year 2030. They address the global challenges we face, including
poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace
and justice.
>What does it mean to demonstrate relevance to the sustainable development goals?
A digital solution as a whole, or its subcomponents must contribute to
the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals. For example, a
digital solution with a goal, mission or vision relevant to an SDG, or
a digital solution that produces a data set relevant to an SDG would
qualify. In either case, there must be clear intentions to further the
SDG in question through your work.
Does anyone have links to evidence demonstrating this?
Thanks,
Ian

Good idea. I posted on ComDev. It would be interesting to know what
Fineract's experience was, and whether other projects have considered
this.

Arrow is considering registering as a Digital Public Good. See
forwarded email, also in archive [1].
Any thoughts on this? We know that Fineract has been through this
process. Is registration something that other projects should
consider?
