Sorry Dennis,
I made a mistake looking in
http://maven.apache.org/guides/mini/guide-mirror-settings.html at the
section:
<mirrors>
<mirror>
<id>ibiblio.org</id>
<name>ibiblio Mirror of http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/</name>
<url>http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/pub/mirrors/maven2</url>
<mirrorOf>central</mirrorOf>
</mirror>
</mirrors>
http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/pub/mirrors/maven2 is not a redirect of
http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/
Thank you very much.
Bye
Ale

I would assume he is perhaps using an older Maven 2.0.x which had
ibiblio as the Central repo, rather than repo1. (Unless I'm just
getting things confused in my old age.)
In general, I think everyone should be using the latest Maven 2.0.7,
so if you're running 2.0.2 or something, you should probably upgrade.

Are we talking about the same server?
You started by saying that
http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/pub/mirrors/maven2
is slow. Then I said that
http://repo1.maven.org/maven2
is fast.
Are you saying that you find
http://repo1.maven.org/maven2
to be slow in the afternoon, Central European Time?

Here are the docs for changing the mirror:
http://maven.apache.org/guides/mini/guide-mirror-settings.html
But, you shouldn't have to specify a mirror at all. The official Maven 2
repository at http://repo1.maven.org/maven2 is always fast enough for me.
