I can't currently replicate this in SVN trunk.  It seems </p><h2> does now
count as whitespace.  There is a potential problem (not actually seen) with:

   to me.</h1><h2>To Be Young

because h[n] tags still effectively become an empty string without space.  It
can't be a genuine link, so maybe h[n] should add space too.
