[jira] [Created] (HBASE-12103) Backport HFileV1Detector to 0.94

Jeffrey Zhong created HBASE-12103:
-------------------------------------

             Summary: Backport HFileV1Detector to 0.94
                 Key: HBASE-12103
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HBASE-12103
             Project: HBase
          Issue Type: Task
            Reporter: Jeffrey Zhong
            Assignee: Jeffrey Zhong

The reason of back porting is that 0.96+ HBase doesn't support HFileV1 format anymore. While HFileV1Detector in 0.98+, which is supposed to check v1 hfile before upgrade, can't talk to pre 0.96 cluster because underlying hadoop doesn't compatible either due to protocol buffer version bump.

After the back port, a user can just download the latest 0.94 HBase tar ball in a machine, point its config to a 0.94 cluster to check v1 file existance by running following command:

{code}
./bin/hbase org.apache.hadoop.hbase.util.HFileV1Detector -p <hbase root data path>
{code}
