\r\n line terminators corrupted in DOM

I have an XML document that includes a CDATA section that contains lines of 
text delimited by \r\n.

This is parsed to create a DOM. When I access the content of the 
org.w3c.dom.Node.CDATA_SECTION_NODE in the DOM, the delimiter is just \n.
