Solaris build make check failure

I am building on Solaris 2.6 (SPARC). Everything worked just fine,
except that several tests fail when running "make check". My test.log
contains a lot of errors relating to stty e.g.

START: target-test.py
stty: : Invalid argument
FAIL: target-test 1: normal use (non-null return)

I also see the following in other places:

Actual standard error:
=====
stty: : No such device or address

Is the above related to a broken stty on Solaris? I have python 2.3.3
installed.

Thanks,
Raman
