CouchDB 1.7 versus 2.1.1

I am just interested, why are their seemingly two separate releases - One as 1.x and One as 2.x?

Subject: _bulk_get CouchDB 1.7.x, Couchbase Mobile 1.4

Hello,

With the recent release of CouchDB 1.7.x that looks like it includes the _bulk_get api, we expected our mobile app that's built on Couchbase Mobile
1.4 to make use of this, but it doesn't appear to.

Has anyone had success getting this to work and if so, was there a trick?

  Nick

2.x is a significant update over 1.x and especially older setups don’t have the resources to migrate (although the API is 99% compatible, operationally, there are good number of changes that could disrupt a stable system). As such, we support both CouchDB 1.x and 2.x for critical security updates and have made new releases in both lines.

If you are starting out with CouchDB, we recommend you start with 2.x, 2.1.1 to be precise at the time of writing.

Cheers
