set username and password

hi all

i'm calling a web service using javascript but getting a bit stuck

If i call the web service using java i can pass a username and password like 
this

......

call.setUsername("username");

call.setPassword("password");

......

can anyone lead me to a tutorial or give me an example of how i set the 
username and password in javascript
