VB.NET
My appologies for this low-level query, but as some users indicate they are
in fact using Lucene.NET with VB.NET <http://vb.net/>, I'd like to ask for
some pointers.
VB.NET <http://vb.net/> is completly new terrain for me, being a VB6
developer and a pretty junior one at that. Lucene.NET has proven so
attractive, however, that I'm considering the plunge.
Can anyone give me some pointers on how to actually use Lucene.NET from
VB.NET <http://vb.net/>?

There's a great quickstart to be found here: http://www.dotlucene.net/
As for getting into vb.net. My suggestion would be to spend (a lot of) time on the vb.net express site that Microsoft provides: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/vb/
If you're also considering asp.net, then this is worth visiting: http://www.asp.net/

take the examples, run a code translator between c# and vb and you will see.
Actually we are using lucene.net from vb, you only have to add the
lucene dll reference, an use it as usual.

http://www.developerfusion.co.uk/utilities/convertvbtocsharp.aspx is useful
to compare the two.
And yes, I moved from a 15s..130s search time using MSSQL 2005 full-text to
1..3s search time (although I still use SQL to fill in the gaps I leave out
of the Lucene indexes).

Jokim and René, grazias and bedankt respectively.
It's like pulling at one thread and unraveling two more in the process. By
now I'm looking at both C# and VB.Net just to figure out how to assemble the
dll.
VB.Net is definitely not VB6. I'm a long way from home. Still,
Lucene.Netseems like it may be worth the effort.
