proxy

I'm using apache/soap 2.0, Tomcat 3.1 on JDK 1.3. My service is behind a proxy
server.
Invoking a Call object resulted in an error (of course - the whole thing is not
aware of a proxy server).
Then setting the system properties http.proxyHost and http.proxyPort did not
help (same error).
The code in org.apache.soap.transport.http.SOAPHTTPConnection uses code which
opens a direct socket connection to the server. Thus I implemented my own
SoapHttpConnection which can handle proxies.

Now my question: Is this the correct way to do? Or are there other solutions?
