How to create composite diagrams for the samples

I'd like to understand how to create composite diagrams similar to the
ones Simon already created for most samples.

Do we have a quick summary of the steps to do this?
Is there a set of predefined shapes uploaded somewhere that we all can
use for these diagrams?
Should I use a tool like inkscape to create the diagrams?

Thanks

but I'm sure there are many.
The (minimal) template I use is here -
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/tuscany/sandbox/slaws/blankcomposite.svg
Other than that the process is a manual one of reading the composite file
and drawing what you see.
