We also have an Apache 1 proxy in front of Apache 2. Short-circuiting
the proxy solves the problem.
That's the second time we're bitten by the proxy (the first was the
unability to "svn rename" a file without a "502 Bad Gateway").
We plan to drop that feature :-(

Well, it might be a bug in subversion's dav layer... but if you
deleted the working copy, it will be hard to track down. :-)

In the mean time, deleting completely the working coy (after a "svn
status" to check what's in it) solved the problem. So, you're right,
the bug was in the working copy.
Next time we have it, I'll try your workaround. Is is regarded as a
bug in Subversion or did I do something wrong (one of my co-workers
got it, too)?

I suspect you have a bogus http cache in your working copy.
Change into the directory which contains 'functions_sql.tmpl'.
Delete everything in .svn/wcprops/* and also delete .svn/dir-wcprops.
Then try committing again.

Not for long. We again have the problem.
Apache log shows:
[Fri May 27 14:32:11 2005] [error] [client 192.134.4.69] Could not CHECKOUT resource /!svn/ver/329/src/db/functions_sql.tmpl. [409, #0]
[Fri May 27 14:32:11 2005] [error] [client 192.134.4.69] (2)No such file or directory: The version resource does not correspond to the resource within the transaction. Either the requested version resource is out of date (needs to be updated), or the requested version resource is newer than the transaction root (restart the commit). [409, #160024]
"svn udpate" was done (we are at revision 332).
"svnadmin verify" is happy and "svnadmin recover" changed
nothing. "svnadmin lstxns" shows no pending transactions.
This is becoming serious, now, we have no workaround and work to
commit.
The log of the file, if useful, is:
