CouchDB Website

Hello everyone!

As we'll need to put up a static website for CouchDB on the ASF infra
I've been hacking on some scripts, content, and layout to prepare for
the move.

Here's what it looks like (directly out of SVN):

   <http://couchdb.googlecode.com/svn/site/htdocs/index.html>

Here's some basic info:

   <http://couchdb.googlecode.com/svn/site/README.txt>

And the whole thing can be checked out and tested here:

   <http://couchdb.googlecode.com/svn/site/>

More content needs to be added, of course. At this point I'm just
interested in what people think of the overall approach (a custom
Python script and Markdown/SmartyPants), the design and structure,
etc. I.e. whether this stuff is okay with Apache and the CouchDB team.

Cheers,

Heh, I've been watching that thread with interest. ;

Further down the line, it's always possible to set up a solaris zone for the
project, on which we could run CouchDB. See
http://www.apache.org/dev/solaris-zones.html for more info or the cocoon
zone for an example: http://cocoon.zones.apache.org/

It's not impossible, but we'll have to make a case for it.
Fortunately, I think that case will be relatively easy to make
versus, say, introducing a different source code control system.

Nah, didn't expect anything in incubation, was just interested in
whether it was allowed in the general apache ecosystem.

Seriously though, very cool work on the site so far. Just a shame the
incubator logo clashes so badly.

Not for the main web site itself, which, IIUC, needs to be able to be
mirrored across various machines/sites, and thus needs to be mostly
static.

For other ways to show we're eating our own dogfood, we'll have to
wait and see. Setting up pieces of infrastructure is not done lightly
around here, there needs to be a very good reason, and a good number
of reliable people who volunteer to help keeping things running. I
don't see anything in that direction happening in the incubation
stage, at least.

Cheers,
Chris

Looks very good. Of course it would be very cool if it was backed
with a CouchDB, but we're probably not ready for that yet. When we do
get to the point CouchDb is ready for prime time, is it something that
the Apache infrastructure will let us do?

Yeah, I followed those guidelines.

(It says using Anakia is optional, so I went with a generation
approach I personally consider nicer and more lightweight, and which
is less XML-heavy.)
