Serializer/Deserializer for char

I am new to SOAP. I am using Apache SOAP 2.0 with WebSphere 3.5.2. I have
"char" in my interface, which is not supported by Apache SOAP. Does anybody
happen to have a customized Serializer/Deserializer for char that can be
shared?
