Returning result from two select statements in one file

I'm developing a Cocoon application wich produces PDF files from a file
which is generated by a DB access (Oracle). The problem is the query: The
results I should get looks like this:

<row>
<field1>text</field1>
...
<fieldN>text</fieldN>
<field1FromSecondSelect>text</field1FromSecondSelect>
...
<fieldNFromSecondSelect>text</fieldNFromSecondSelect>
</row>
where "fieldFromSecondSelect" are 0 or more rows which are returned and
should be grouped with the main "select". In PL/SQL, I could write a stored
procedure with a cursor that's returning me the second result set, but
what's the way to do that in Cocoon? So far, I "succeeded" to write a select
statement that's returning me all I need, but whenever the sub-select
returns more than 1 row, the corresponding result from the main query is
returned several times too, like this:

<row>
<field1>text</field1>
...
<fieldN>text</fieldN>
<field1FromSecondSelect>text</field1FromSecondSelect>
</row>

<row>
<field1>same text again</field1>
...
<fieldN>same text again</fieldN>
<field2FromSecondSelect>text</field2FromSecondSelect>
</row>

<row>
<field1>same text again</field1>
...
<fieldN>same text again</fieldN>
<field3FromSecondSelect>text</field3FromSecondSelect>
</row>

and so on. This means I would have to sort this multiple fields later, in a
XSL, but that doesn't seem a very smart thing to do, I guess.

Any suggestions?

You are not be any chance talking about nesting another query inside
the first? If so, why don't you just try it ? ;-)

<esql:execute-query>
  ...
  <esql:row-results>

	 <esql:execute-query>
		....
	 </esql:execute-query>

  </esql:row-results>
<esql:execute-query>

Can't remember off hand if you need <esql:connection> for your
subquery.

Access values from outer query by using attribute ancestor="1" or
however deep it's nested (e.g. <esql:get-string column="name" ancestor="1"/>)

Or try the grouping stuff (documented on user guide -> XSP -> ESQL)

An alternative would be to process the two SELECT independently, each with
their own SQLTransformer pipeline, and then combine them using map:aggregate
and the cocoon:/ protocol.

This might not work if your queries are dependent on each other at the SQL
level, though.

Hi
	I am also getting quite desperate with the sunSpot
Portal. My environment is as follows:
OS: Mandrake-Linux-8.0 or Solaris-2.8
Java: JDK-1.4 or JDK-1.3.1_02
Tomcat: 4.0.1 or let me know what version to use

Cocoon from CVS Checkout this way April-25-2002

cvs -d :pserver:anoncvs@cvs.apache.org:/home/cvspublic \
-z3 checkout -r HEAD xml-cocoon

Build using this command:
build.sh -Dinclude.scratchpad.libs \
-Dinclude.webapp.libs=yes \
-Dinstall.war=$TOMCAT_HOME/webapps install

It builds fine, but then when I invoke it using
http://localhost:8080/cocoon

I get the message that the servlet is not available.
Currently I am using JDK-1.3.1_02, TC-4.0.1, Mandrake-8.0

I have been successfully able to run Cocoon-2.0.2-bin
distribution, but when I get the Cocoon-2.0.2-src and
build it, I run into the same problems.

Attention Sunspot developers - Problems with Sunrise Authentication

Posted by Chitharanjan Das <cd...@accordiasys.com>.
Hello,
	I had raised this issue before.
I am using sunrise authentication for our application. I had to change
the code in 2 files to make the application work properly. I will attach
the 2 files, please scrutinize it and apply these changes in CVS , if
deemed right....

I HAVE THE LATEST CODE FROM THE CVS...

The first change is in the Handler.java file.
	This is in reference to the redirect URI, when the URI starts
with the cocoon:// protocol
/**
 * Chiths - ensured that the cocoon:// protocol starts from the context
 */
if ( this.redirectURI.startsWith("cocoon://") ) {
      this.redirectURI =
this.redirectURI.substring("cocoon://".length()).trim();
      this.redirectURI = request.getContextPath()+"/"+this.redirectURI;
}
else if ( this.redirectURI.startsWith("cocoon:/") ) {
            this.redirectURI =
this.redirectURI.substring("cocoon:/".length()).trim();
 }

The second case is to avoid the null pointer exception thrown when the
logout is performed. This change is done in the
AuthenticatorManager.java.

This happens if you are only using authentication, no application
management etc. The following is my authentication action

	<!-- Added By Chiths -->
<map:action name="accordia-auth"
src="org.apache.cocoon.webapps.authentication.acting.AuthAction">
	<handlers>
	   <handler name="foo-handler"
xmlns:map="http://apache.org/cocoon/sitemap/1.0"
xmlns:sunshine="http://sunshine.sundn.de/sunshine/1.0">
		<redirect-to uri="cocoon://foo-loginpage"/>
		<authentication uri="cocoon:raw://foo-authuser"/>
	</handler>
		</handlers>
</map:action>

The changes done in the AuthenticationManager.java is
/**
 * Commented by Chiths - Should notify cocoon-users, A Null exception is
thrown for
 * following line
 */
//
((SessionContextImpl)this.getSessionManager().getContext(AuthenticationC
onstants.SESSION_CONTEXT_NAME)).cleanParametersCache(logoutHandlerName);
        SessionContextImpl sessionContextImpl = (SessionContextImpl)

(this.getSessionManager().getContext(AuthenticationConstants.SESSION_CON
TEXT_NAME));
            if(sessionContextImpl != null) {

this.getLogger().debug("SunRise:logout() - sessionContextImpl is not
null");

sessionContextImpl.cleanParametersCache(logoutHandlerName);
						}
						else {

this.getLogger().debug("SunRise:logout() - sessionContextImpl is null");
						}

Please investigate this and provide feedback...

Regds,
Chiths

RE: Portal request

Posted by Matthew Langham <ml...@s-und-n.de>.
Dave,

the portal uses DOM - so this is probably your problem. You probably have
some DOM Level 1 implementation in your path and this is conflicting.

Did you copy Xalan and Xerces into the /endorsed directory of JDK 1.4 -
there are problems if you don't do this. Check the list for more information
on this.

Hope something helps.

Hi Dave,

quick off the cuff answer: You have probably not configured Tomcat 4
correctly and are using the wrong DOM implementation. Somebody else on the
list can probably point out what is wrong better than I can at the moment
(we still use Tomcat 3.3 :-)).

Let me know if this helps.

Hi,

Carsten and I will be speaking/presenting on the additional portal and
authentication components in Cocoon at a couple of conferences in the
upcoming months. If you are using the (used to be called) sunRise and
sunSpot components to build a portal then I would love to obtain some
additional screen-shots we can use in the presentation.

Please send me them to me directly (mlangham@s-und-n.de).

Thanks!

Thanks!

Matthew Langham

RE: Portal request

Posted by Matthew Langham <ml...@s-und-n.de>.
Hi Dave,

quick off the cuff answer: You have probably not configured Tomcat 4
correctly and are using the wrong DOM implementation. Somebody else on the
list can probably point out what is wrong better than I can at the moment
(we still use Tomcat 3.3 :-)).

Let me know if this helps.

Matthew

it seems to me more of an SQL than a Cocoon issue... may you share your
